A setting of three poems by Langston Hughes for Soprano and Double Bass.

Hughes was one of the most influential and important writers of the Harlem Renaissance, an African American artistic movement in the 1920s that celebrated black life and culture.

This is a splendid set of pieces, there is humour here but much poignancy and politicism too, and Betty Roe’s music compounds these factors making this historically interesting, as well as an enjoyable work.
