Known primariily as a band leader and jazz artist, Duke Ellington also had deep roots in the Christian faith. His 1943 cantata Black, Brown and Beige featured this rich and deeply moving song most famously performed and recorded by Mahalia Jackson. These accessible settings for mixed and treble choirs by noted jazz educator Paris Rutherford are ideal for both worship and concert performance.
