'The Feast of Love', for baritone and orchestra, was commissioned by the Library of Congress and first performed there at the Elizabeth Sprague Coolidge Birthday festival in 1964. The work is a setting in the composer's free translation of the Pervigilium Veneris, a collection of rhymed Latin stanzas from the second or fourth century AD celebrating the three-day festival of Venus.

All shall love tomorrow,
All who have never loved.
